Project Description

Cadreatech Engineering Professionals were engaged to provide full civil and structural engineering services for the development of a dedicated medical oxygen plant facility within a hospital campus in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The project was conceived as a critical healthcare infrastructure intervention aimed at strengthening hospital capacity to deliver uninterrupted medical oxygen to life-saving departments.

The single-storey reinforced concrete framed structure was purpose-designed to house oxygen generation equipment, high-pressure storage tanks, control rooms, and associated mechanical and electrical installations. The low-rise configuration was deliberately selected to enhance operational safety, reduce structural risk, simplify equipment installation, and allow efficient access for routine maintenance and emergency interventions.

Structural design considerations focused on equipment loading, vibration control, durability, and long-term performance in a challenging environment characterized by high temperatures and intensive operational demands. The civil engineering scope included site layout planning, equipment foundations, drainage systems, and integration with existing hospital infrastructure. Particular emphasis was placed on ventilation, fire safety separation, and compliance with healthcare, environmental, and building standards.

The facility was strategically positioned within the hospital compound to enable direct and reliable oxygen distribution to critical care units, including intensive care units, emergency departments, operating theatres, maternity wards, and isolation units. The design also incorporated scalability provisions, allowing future expansion of oxygen production capacity to respond to public health emergencies, pandemics, or increased patient demand.

Outcome

The project delivered a resilient, safe, and future-ready medical oxygen plant that significantly enhances healthcare service delivery in Maiduguri. Through robust civil and structural engineering input, the facility supports uninterrupted oxygen supply, improves emergency preparedness, and strengthens the hospital’s capacity to respond effectively to pandemics and critical health crises. The completed project demonstrates Cadreatech’s expertise in delivering essential healthcare infrastructure under demanding operational and environmental conditions.

Hospital Oxygen Plant Layout and Functional Zoning Plan
