Project Description

Cadreatech Engineering Professionals were engaged to provide comprehensive civil engineering design services for the proposed Regional Assistive Technology Centre of Excellence in Juja, Kiambu County. The project focused on the planning and design of critical civil infrastructure to support a specialised healthcare and rehabilitation facility on a sloping site with an average gradient of approximately 10 percent.

The scope of civil works included the design of an efficient storm water drainage system to safely manage surface runoff, prevent erosion, and protect buildings, pavements, and landscaped areas during heavy rainfall events. Careful consideration was given to the site’s natural topography to ensure controlled water flow and long-term durability of the external works.

Internal driveways, parking areas, and access routes were designed to support safe and efficient vehicular and pedestrian circulation, with appropriate gradients, pavement build-ups, and turning provisions suitable for service vehicles and daily operational use. Site grading and building stepping solutions were developed to minimise excessive cut-and-fill, improve constructability, and integrate the proposed buildings seamlessly into the existing terrain.

The project also included the design of potable water supply systems and foul water reticulation networks, ensuring reliable service delivery, hygienic wastewater disposal, and compliance with public health requirements. All civil designs were developed in accordance with Kenyan standards and regulatory requirements, including KEBS, WRA, EBK, and applicable environmental guidelines, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, safety, and ease of maintenance.

Outcome

The completed civil engineering design provides a well-coordinated and regulation-compliant site infrastructure that supports the long-term functionality of the Regional Assistive Technology Centre of Excellence. The project demonstrates effective management of sloping terrain through engineered grading, stepping, and drainage solutions, ensuring site stability, accessibility, and resilience against extreme weather conditions.

The civil works design enhances accessibility for all users, supports efficient facility operations, and establishes a solid foundation for future development phases. Through detailed and comprehensive tender documentation, the project is well positioned for smooth procurement and efficient construction, aligned with national standards and international healthcare infrastructure best practices.

Access Road Vertical Alignment and Stormwater Drainage Profile Design

Access road vertical alignment profile showing original ground level, proposed road design level, and stormwater drain alignment for a sloping site development in Juja, Kiambu County, Kenya.
Access road vertical alignment profile showing original ground level, proposed road design level, and stormwater drain alignment for a sloping site development in Juja, Kiambu County, Kenya.

This combined drawing presents the access road vertical alignment profile together with the stormwater drainage alignment and levels. The profile compares the original ground levels with the proposed road design levels, ensuring smooth gradients, safe driving conditions, and effective integration with site circulation and parking areas. The storm drain alignment is coordinated with the road geometry to ensure efficient surface water collection, controlled discharge, and prevention of erosion on the sloping terrain. The design supports long-term durability, accessibility, and compliance with civil engineering standards for roadworks and drainage infrastructure.
